Sri Krishna Balaniketana – Free Hostel for Children

Give them a heart …to dream

About Srikrishna Balaniketana Udupi

Most of us have grown to become normal individuals, it is the rapturously dream – draped childhood that has caused this natural transformation. We have had a happier childhood which has enriched our memories. Happy memories beget happy dreams. How many of us have taken time off to realise that quite a few children around us are unfortunate not to have a normal childhood? Don’t we owe these wonderful tiny tots an effort to give them a heart.. to dream like all of us did? An optimum schooling which all of us are blessed with?

To provide poor and under privileged children with the necessary atmosphere of attention, affection and proper education, Srikrishna BALANIKETANA was started with leadership of Sri Sri Vishwesha Thirtha Swamiji of Sri Pejavar Mutt and now the present Swamiji Sri Sri Vishwaprasanna Teertha of Pejavara Matha is looking after the BALANIKETANA under Sri Krishna Sevadhama Trust. It was significant to have this BALANIKETANA in Udupi, the famous pilgrimage centre of Lord Krishna on the west coast of India. Lord Krishna is always believed to have had a boisterous childhood filled with the frills of unusual birth place and subsequent grand, mischievous childhood, full of love and miraculous feats.

The BALANIKETANA is situated in Kukkikatte village 2 kms away from Udupi town. It is housed in a spacious premise on a site of 3 acres with hilly, green background and peaceful atmosphere. The building of BALANIKETANA was constructed with the generous financial assistance of Late Dr. A.R. Acharya, a dynamic and philanthropic industrialist who was based in Mumbai, on behalf of Sri VKR Acharya Trust.

Presently around 50 children are enjoining the touch of homely care and protection in the Sri Krishna Balanikethana. They are being provided free board and lodge, formal education in different schools in the locality, and they also attend mental and physical health checkup and care through qualified physicians and psychiatrists, facilities for indoor and outdoor activities, knowledge of rich Indian cultural heritage, lessons in morality, yoga and music and such other activities designed to shape the multi-dimensional personality of the children. Matrons and volunteers of the Institution are selflessly and untiringly working with total dedication to ensure all round progress and wellbeing of the children in the right direction.

The Balanikethana looks after the wellbeing of children not only during their stay but even when time comes for them to leave the institution. Thus if they want to go for higher education after their SSLC it is ready to help them. Career guidance programmes, finding placement for those who seek employment are also in the cards. A helping hand is extended when they are in search of accommodation after they get employed.
