About Sri Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji
Sri Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji was a revered Hindu saint and the 34th pontiff of the Pejawar Math, one of the eight Ashta Mathas of Udupi, Karnataka. Born in 1931 in Ramakunja, he was initiated into sainthood at a young age and dedicated his life to the service of society, spirituality, and the propagation of the Dvaita philosophy of Sri Madhvacharya. Swamiji was known for his deep devotion to Lord Krishna and his unwavering commitment to social reforms. He played a significant role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and actively engaged in interfaith dialogues to promote harmony.
Unlike many traditional saints, he embraced social causes, working towards the upliftment of Dalits and opening temple doors to marginalized communities. He also undertook several Paryayas (ritual tenure as the head of Udupi Sri Krishna Math), serving six terms, a record in the history of the Ashta Mathas. His humility, wisdom, and tireless efforts for the welfare of society earned him immense respect across religious and social boundaries.
Swamiji passed away on December 29, 2019, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, knowledge, and selfless service.
